Compton dragged gamma–ray bursts: the spectrum
نویسندگان
چکیده
We calculate the spectrum resulting from the interaction of a fireball with ambient soft photons. These photons are assumed to be produced by the walls of a funnel in a massive star. By parameterizing the radial dependence of the funnel temperature we calculate the deceleration of the fireball self–consistently, taking into account the absorption of high energy γ–rays due to interaction with the softer ambient photons. The resulting spectrum is peaked at energies in agreement with observations, has a ν slope in the X–ray band and a steep power–law high energy tail.

Optical simulation and experimental measurement of gamma ray energy spectrum of plastic scintillators with different sizes
The application of large plastic scintillators is widely increasing in the different areas of industry, medicine and security due to technical and economic advantages. One of the main disadvantages of these detectors is the unknown position of Compton edge at gamma ray spectrum. In this research, GEANT4/GATE code has been used to simulate the gamma ray spectrum for different volumes of large pl...
متن کاملCompton-dragged Gamma-Ray Bursts Associated with Supernovae.
It is proposed that the gamma-ray photons that characterize the prompt emission of gamma-ray bursts are produced through the Compton-drag process, which is caused by the interaction of a relativistic fireball with a very dense soft photon bath. If gamma-ray bursts are indeed associated with supernovae, then the exploding star can provide enough soft photons for radiative drag to be effective. T...
متن کاملPhysical Model of Gamma-ray Burst Spectral Evolution
We propose a physical model of gamma-ray burst spectral evolution in which impulsively accelerated nonthermal leptons cool by saturated Compton upscattering of soft photons. This model naturally explains the recently discovered exponential decay of the spectral break energy with photon fluence, the hard-to-soft spectral evolution patterns, and other spectral and temporal properties of gamma-ray...

A more detailed analysis is made of the energy spectrum of the diffuse component of extragalactic gamma rays over the range of 0.3- 10 GeV, obtained fromthe EGRET instrument at the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. The derived excess energy spectrum of high galactic latitude, b > 60°, using intercept method shows that it is correlated with Virgo cluster (over lsr) and average Virgo intensity i...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Bursts: A Look behind the Headlines1
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs)—intense but brief flashes of gamma rays—were first discovered accidentally by US military satellites in 1967, and have since become a major puzzle for astrophysics. By 1992, however, observations mainly with the Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) on-board NASA’s Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, had provided compelling evidence that GRBs originate mostly at large...
